Overview


Graphics interchange format or .gif is a file format for bitap images. The .gif format came about in 1987 as has become increasing popular as users now use the format to create animations with .It was first used as one of the original image formats for the world wide web. Now, gif where users can create a series of images and string them together in a sequence. Examples of these images can be seen on the wikipedia page about .gif or on many other websites. The format does have it's limitations however as only 256 distinct colors can be used. Because of this limitation .gifs are best limited to images with fewer colors, ideally black and white for best quality.
